We are hosting our very first treasure hunt starting tonight, and going until Tuesday night 8/22!
Hidden somewhere in the world is a small group of chests. Within these chests is a collection of treasure including diamonds, emeralds, a nether star, a piece of armor, and a bow. In one of the chests is a book signed by BraydonDagenais so that you know you've found the right chests! These chests are not buried and do not require you to break blocks to access them. They are not within any claims or any man-made structures. They are in the wild.
On the dynmap is a bright yellow border. Every day the border will shrink smaller slowly zero-ing in on exactly where the treasure is hidden! The chests will NOT be at the center of the border, but they are somewhere within the border.
The first person to find the chests gets everything hidden inside, special items with colored names to show off, and your name on the board in Origin. Good luck!
We are re-rendering the entire map today, so the dynmap will appear to be mostly black for most of the day. This render will also cause some lag on the server, but it shouldn't be too bad.
We are doing this to test if storing the map as regular files instead of using MySQL would be faster. Hopefully by doing this we can find a way to make the map update faster, and load faster within your browser. I know it has been slow lately.
We are starting something new on Altitude! This is for those of you who have that creative itch, and want something bigger than just a plot, something massive and challenging to work on. Architopolis is a project I originally started back in 2013 with a good friend of mine, squirel2wiseguy. He and I left another server to start our own (my first server) and we have a secret side project where we were trying to build the largest city in Minecraft.
Go figure, it didn't go quite as planned. So now we are revisiting the idea, and inviting everyone else to join us. Together we will build a massive city that is detailed and realistic. Right now anyone can visit the world by doing /warp architopolis, but only "builders" will be able to build. I say "builders" lightly, because if you apply and are accepted you will not have any special rank or anything. This isn't about being special or standing out, its about having a serious project to devote some time to and enjoy yourself.
If you'd like to learn more, or apply to build, please visit the website:
It is absolutely amazing what this community has been able to accomplish, and I know I've said it time and time again. Today I'm here to announce one more accomplishment that affects everyone here on Altitude, and every player that ever will join!
We've successfully raised enough money each month to support the server for 3 months in a row now, and because of this we are removing ads on all of our websites! You have all given so much support to the server that we want to create the absolute best experience possible for you, and we can do that now without worrying about covering the server costs each month.
Thank you to everyone who has made this possible, who has supported the server, continues to support the server, and to everyone who will in the future! It is your donations that make the Altitude server possible.
I apologize for the downtime earlier today! The server failed to reboot after it shut down to reset the end world. This is a completely automated process and occurs while I am asleep, so I was not aware of the issue. I was then at college orientation for most of the morning and did not have an opportunity to sit down and diagnose the server until close to noon.
The server should now be up and running without any issues, and I am looking into the automated system to ensure it does not happen again! There doesn't appear to be any major bugs or issues, so I believe it may have been a simple typo in the reboot script.
Thank you all for your patience and understanding!
Our first build competition, Your Dream House, has come to an end! WilliamTheHobbit has won the competition with his home, Stone House, earning a whopping 8.0/10 average rating.
Congratulate WilliamTheHobbit next time you see him online! Thank you to everyone who participated in the competition and voted on the plots, we had a great time seeing all the unique houses that everyone came up with!
We will be planning another competition soon, and we've taken all of your suggestions into consideration!
The long awaited replacement for the town warp system is finally here! Waypoints, our custom solution to a community server with a vanilla feel, will let players create markers around the world at various places of interest. This includes towns, public grinders, personal shops/trading centers, transportation hubs, and other creative ideas you all come up with. Waypoints will be marked on the dynamic map, and will be listed in-game by doing /wp. When a player clicks on a waypoint in-game it will start navigation to that waypoint. The distance to the waypoint will display above your hotbar, and any compass you hold will point towards it. You can also do /wp start <name> to begin navigation. If you would like to have something marked with a waypoint, submit an application below!
We are hosting our very first building competition, Your Dream House! On July 21st and 22nd players will compete for 3 totems in survival + your name in Origin. Contenders will have 3 hours (7PM to 10PM EST) on July 21st to build their dream house. Each contender will have a creative plot to build in. Plots are 50 by 50. After 3 hours the plots will be locked.
Then, on July 22nd everyone on the server will be invited to rate the plots form 1-10. You will be able to do /warp competition to get to the plots, and then /plots rate [#] to rate each plot. The plot with the highest average rating wins!
If you would like to participate in this competition, please fill out the typeform linked below! If you only want to vote on the builds there is no need to complete the application, everyone can vote!
I can't believe we did it! We set a new record of 62 people online! (We missed the screenshot). I know I've said this plenty of times now in previous blog posts, but I am absolutely amazed at how big this server has grown, and how friendly the community is.
When we opened this server back in 2015 we never ever expected to be where we are today. Altitude started as a private server for some close friends to enjoy vanilla + McMMO. A few months in we opened the server up and removed the whitelist in case anyone else in the vast universe wanted to join our little community. This community has grown, and grown, and we've been through quite a bit as a result!
Thank you to everyone who has made this possible and supported Altitude over the years!
We've heard your voices and we're going to make it happen: community events are coming to Altitude!
For a very long time we've wanted to host events on the server. Fishing competitions, building challenges, spleef mini-games, and more. The challenge has been creating a team that can plan, manage, and moderate these events. With the server growing daily as we continue into summer it was time for us to finally make some stuff happen.
Some stuff is currently in the works and we hope to have an announcement for our first event out soon, so stay tuned! Also, if you see Kevin1967 online thank him for taking on the challenge of organizing all of this.
Altitude is your home for a laid back community survival server. We host survival with land claiming, McMMO, and a dynamic map! We are committed to creating a professional and lag-free server for the best Minecraft community around to relax and get away from everything else.
